James Weekes

James Weekes is an athlete of the home soil Nevis, who prior to becoming a triathlete was a runner. He never even knew what a triathlon was until he was pushed into it almost without a choice by the cycling club president.

His triathlon journey began in 2000 where he began cycling and slowly but surely began learning to swim. James was always athletic so this new sport quickly grew on him and in the space of about one year he was neck and shoulders above the rest. He then managed to hold the top spot in the federation for four consecutive years.

As he forged ahead in pursuit of greatness throughout the Caribbean being well known for his powerful run, it is safe to say he has had podium finishes in all he triathlon races abroad, Antigua, Barbados, Grenada, Tobago, and St. Maarten just to name a few. James will also participate in the TriStar111. “I’ll be glad to be numbered among the stars” said James.

Flying Rastaman AKA Reginald ‘Reggie’ Douglas

I have been taking part in triathlon for about 10 years now. I like the lifestyle, it fits well with my faith of being a Rasta so lets just say it makes me one with my self. I love learning and teaching myself different training methods to get me to the best of my ability. I made my international debut in 2003 at the St. Croix half Ironman - it was a wonderful race everybody was talking about this ‘beast’ I was excited to meet this ‘beast’ to conquer it and I did, I was the 1st from the Caribbean to finish from there my life has changed.

On my return I received a new bike from a hotel owner who always told me I can beat my team mate and I told him “I am learning to win“, I did not read this anywhere and nobody told me of this. 2004 approached I was 4th in the Nevis international triathlon 2nd in the St.Kitts international triathlon, 2005 saw me overseas again, I was 2nd in the love city Sprint tri, overseas again to Barbados Olympic tri 5th place, 2006 saw me with a lot of injuries, but 2007 I was back in St. Croix for the half Ironman I was 8th in my age group 1st again from the Caribbean and that gave me a slot for the half Ironman world championship in Florida where I was 1st Caribbean athlete, 112th in my age group, overseas again to Tobago rainbow cup international tri 1st 2008 same year back down west to St. Croix for the Caribbean classic 1st place. In 2009 I took 1st place in the Grenada international triathlon I also won the OECS triathlon Championship 4 times And national championship 4 times In 2008 and 2009 I was voted nevis sportsman of the year.

Jaqueline Jodhan

Jaqueline Jodhan was nominated for Sportswoman of the year 2009 for the sport of Triathlon in Trinidad, having won the National Championships in the Rainbow Cup Triathlon in Tobago, and placing 3rd in the Caribbean Championships in Barbados in the Sprint Event in 1 hr 25 mins.

In 2010, she swam in the first ever 5k National Open Water Swim in Trinidad and placed 4th overall, also swam in the Barbados 5k Open Water and came fifth, times, 1hr 37 min and 1hr 28min.

It all started in 1982, when she won the main Road Race Half Marathon in 1hr 40min 32 sec in Trinidad

In 1995, she tried her first triathlon and came 3rd the national championships here in Trinidad, an Olympic in 2hr 51min

Gwen Trucco

Gwen Trucco is the first TriStar111 Nevis registrant!

Only about 4 years ago Gwen Trucco decided to do her first triathlon. She always ran and swam for exercise but biking was – according to her - only a means of transportation. Over the years she has known several people to do them but she never considered it for herself.

She likes challenges so it didn't take much for her Nevis friends to convince her to do her first triathlon. Not only did they convince her to sign up but they also convinced her to do the Olympic distance over the Sprint.

“OK....I did not really know what I was getting myself into. As the big day got closer I had a little panic attack...WHAT HAVE I SIGNED UP FOR!!! :)”, says Gwen.

As well as she was wandering around talking to other athletes, she was getting several comments that she was crazy for signing up for the Olympic distance when she had never done a race before. But nevertheless she finished the race and had fun!

“So I decided that I needed to work on my time. Obviously I was hooked! It has now been several years and I am still at it although have upped the challenge and going for this new Tristar 111.”

Gwen has been a part of Nevis life for the last 30+ years, and now works for Lakeforest Travel in Chicago, sending people to Nevis to enjoy what she has since she was a child.

Lindsay Duffy

Originally from England, she is resident in Antigua since 2005 and partner of a publishing company producing the Antigua & Barbuda Marine Guide. "I came to triathlon late in life. In my late thirties I gave up smoking and took up running. On settling in Antigua there did not seem to be many running races and an e mail sent to me by mistake in 2006 saw me entering my first sprint distance tri. I was hooked. My first visit to Nevis was in 2007 to race their triathlon and I have been back each year ( only to watch in 2009 due to flu) taking part in
my first Tristar111 last year. Triathlon has been a great way to visit other Caribbean islands, including Grenada, Barbados, St Maarten, Trinidad & Tobago. I am looking forward to beating my time in Tristar 2012 and competing in Antigua’s (and mine) first Wadadli Tinman half iron distance in January" she said. Good luck Lindsay!

Tobias Clarence

Tobias is one of the regions top athletes and will be attending TriStar111 Nevis!

In 2006 Tobias began competing in the Multi-Sport arena (Duathlon, Triathlon and Adventure Racing) and quickly developed a passion for these multi-faceted sporting disciplines as they are reminiscent of the lifestyle of his youth where on an average day he could run, ride, swim, surf and run back home again.

In 2009 after placing 3rd for three years in a row, he finally won the Tropical Power Coast to Coast Adventure Race! However, during that year he also won the National Triathlon Championships (Trinidad & Tobago); the Central American Duathlon (Puerto Rico); and the Eco Adventures Off-Road Triathlon (Trinidad & Tobago).

He was selected as the Trinidad and Tobago Triathlon Federation’s nominee for the First Citizens Sports Foundation Sportsman of the Year Award 2009.

Tobias will also participate in the TriStar111 Nevis!

Janine Herweijer

Janine has won on Nevis 3 times!

She discovered Nevis in 2005 during a sailing trip. Together with some friends she biked around the Island. She always remembers the friendly and helpful people on this small but beautiful island.

In 2006 she came back on the Island as a triathlete. She spend seven weeks on the island with the Nevis Cycle and triathlon club as a swim coach. And at the end she participated in the International Olympic Triathlon.

Ever since, she tries to come back for the annual triathlon and enjoys the lovely island.

Janine likes the diversity of the island: “People call Nevis the Queen of the Caribbean and I think that is a true title. The island is a lovely place to stay. It has so many things to offer: You can make a fabulous bike tour around the Island, or an off road ride into the mainland. You can hike to the source or the top of the island. And if you are not in the mood of activity just sit down on the beach under a palm tree and enjoy a drink.”

Janine has been racing in famous and less famous triathlons of all kind all over the world and every time she participates in the Nevis triathlon she is amazed how such a small Island can organize such a professional and warm event.

“I am looking forward to be back on the Island and participate and get the special Caribbean triathlon feeling again.”

Gerd Weber

Gerd Weber is the athlete whose former wife the swim is done in honor of. For the 60-year-old athlete it all started in Nevis/St. Kitts in 1997. After that he competed in local races and the ITU sprint race up to 2003. In the years that followed, he'd been content to race in an Ironman a year in North America or Europe.

Gerd Weber lives in Orillia, Ontario, and he also spends time in Kona, Hawaii, taking part in the triathlon community in both locations. He thrives on the social aspect of the sport, and is always happy to fit swimming, biking and running into his day. No race or training plan is too small or too great to capture Weber's interest.

Taking part on TriStar111 Nevis he will come back to the place where it all started.
