Personalities of show-business and other sports disciplines will have a go at the Formula 1 of Triathlons
The Principality of Monaco hosts the Formula 1 of Triathlons on 5 September 2010. While some 650 individual athletes will participate in the triathlon over the unique distances of 1km swimming, 100km cycling and 10km running, some celebrities can be spotted not only as spectators but in the race.
The starting list of TriStar111 Monaco on 5 September is growing, and some names ring a bell. The possibility of participating in the Team Relay Challenge attracted famous people from other sports disciplines as well as personalities known from television. Teams can be composed of two or three competitors branching out 1km of swimming, 100km of cycling and 10km of running in and around the Principality of Monaco. The Team Relay Challenge starts 15 minutes after the individual’s race, and it will be fun to find out who will cross the finish line first – an individual or a strong team.
TriStar is a race format attractive to cyclists, and the following athletes will compete in Monaco:
Thierry Bourguignon, former professional cyclist who first took part in the Tour the France in 1991 and finished a stage on second place. Thierry is one of the most famous and most popular cyclists in France, not least because of his reputation of “the Clown of the peloton”.
Geoffroy Lequatre, pro cyclist in Lance Armstrong’s Radio Shack Team and winner of the Tour of Britain in 2008 will participate in the “LivestrongTM Team” in Monaco to raise awareness for the fight against cancer.
Racing drivers are spotted quite often in and on the streets of Monaco. On 5 September, the following ones will be seen in unusual race uniforms:
Paul Belmondo, French actor and TV consultant will be racing as an individual. A new challenge for Belmondo after his active carreer in motorsports, the F3000, F1, the 24hours of Le Mans, the Paris-Dakar. Paul is Jean-Paul Belmondo’s son.
Didier André competed in the Indy Racing League and the Nissan World Series from 2003 until present. In 2006 he drove in the Le Mans Series Championship, initially in LMP2 for the team Paul Belmondo racing car n°37.
Alexander Wurz, former Formula 1 driver knows every bend of the running course in Monaco. He will go full distance and do the triathlon as an individual, entailing the swim and the cycling in order to go on the run on the well-known Formula 1 circuit in Monaco, where he lives.
Who said TriStar features a swim leg that’s too short for triathlon? Franck Esposito could act as proof that it’s an attractive race format. Nicknamed “Titou”, Esposito participated in four consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1992. He broke the World Record in the Butterfly short course (200m) four times.
Sports and Television often go together. The following celebrities will participate in Monaco as well:
Nathalie Simon is a former professional windsurfer who made her TV debut in 1991. Since then she’s a popular and much-appreciated personality on French TV.
Christophe Pinna, member of the French National Karate team and multiple World Champion is known for his roundhouse kicks. After his active career in sports he was the head coach in the “Star Academy” TV show (French equivalent for “Pop Idol”).
Monte Carlo and the Principality of Monaco have reached excellence in organising high quality and highly mediated sports events like the Formula One Grand Prix, the Monte Carlo Rally, the Monte Carlo Open, the Tennis Masters Monte Carlo, Monte Carlo’s International Show-Jumping, the International Swimmers Meeting, and “Herculis”, the second most important international meeting of the year. Triathlon has become a part of the international sport events in the Principality on the French Riviera, and TriStar111 Monaco will continue to promote the sport of triathlon in this inimitable spot in the World.
The TriStar label is owned by Star Production SARL, a Monaco based company specialized in organising high quality sports events that are focused on fun, social responsibility and environmental protection. The TriStar Series has introduced new distances to the sport of triathlon (A/N: 111km and 222km).
