The second edition of TriStar Nevis brings along another week full of sport events and fun on the island known as the "Queen of the Caribbean". The 2012 events will be even more interesting for athletes who want to start the season with a whole week of trainings surrounded by their families in a real paradise on earth. Nevis will host several different competitionsin one of the earliest destinations of the year worldwide. This sports festival starts on 25 March with a StarMile2.5 Nevis~St.Kitts, a 2.5 miles long swim race with 10 years’ tradition in open waters connecting these two islands. Besides TriStar111 Nevis –31March– there will be two other triathlons (TriStar11.1 and TriStar33.3), perfect to get the taste of this sport for the first time or simply to train before the big race. Athletes can also participate in a 5km charity run, contributing to the Pink Lily Cancer Care Nevis. The top ranked triathletes in TriStar111 Nevis 2012 will share a total of $ 10,000 PRO cash purse, attracting top athletes from US and Europe to come to Nevis.

Nevis is set to host a mega triathlon event in 2010. This was revealed at a press conference held last week by the President of the St.Kitts and Nevis Triathlon Federation, Winston Crooke. The press conference was held upstairs the Arthur Evelyn Building which houses the Nevis Tourism Authority.
Present at the Press conference were representatives of all of the stakeholders on Nevis who will all seek to ensure that the event is a major success. Some of the agencies represented were: The Police, Customs Dept; The Ministry of Tourism, the Nevis Cultural Foundation; Public Works Dept; Ministry of Sports; Immigration and Dept of Planning, among others.
Mr. Crooke outlined the basic information on the proposed event and the persons present made suggestions as to the logistics of making the event a major success.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Mr. Alsted Pemberton indicated that the Nevis Island Administration is very much on board and will support the St.Kitts and Nevis Triathlon Federation in its quest of making the event a success, having recognized the tremendous impact it will have on the Tourism product on the island.
According to Crooke, the mega Tri star 111 event will be held on Saturday April 2nd but will involve a full week of activities involving the athletes and their entourage.
The busy week of activities will commence on Sunday 27th March 2011 with the annual cross channel swim from Nevis to St.Kitts which continues to attract more and more swimmers every year. It will also involve tours, hikes, cultural events and smaller biking events that will seek to involve participation from some of Nevis’ young athletes especially some of the young Cyclists who are currently involved in the ‘bikes not bombs program. The visitors will also be exposed to a wide array of Nevis cuisine and general culture.
The main event will involve the following:
· TriStar111 Distance – 1000m Swim - 100km Bike - 10km Run (individual or relay)
· TriStar33.3 Distance - 300m Swim - 30km Bike - 3km Run (individual only)
· TriStar11.1 Distance – 0.1km Swim - 10km Bike - 1km Run (individual only)
Yesterday, Mr. Crooke, Mr. Pemberton and Mr. Gregg Phillip (the General Secretary of the SKNTA) were guests on the ‘Social Development Outlook’ program aired on Choice Radio and they sought to inform the general public on the event.
The point was made lucidly clear that the event could never be a success unless the general population of Nevis unite forces to make it happen.
Greg Phillip stated emphatically: ‘Yes we can’ as he referred to the fact that much smaller countries would have successfully hosted events involving huge amounts of athletes.
It was noted that some 500 athletes are expected in for the event, including some of the world famous triathletes. Additionally the meet is expected to attract some world renowned stars, including local hero, Kim Collins.
World renowned media personnel are also expected in to cover the event.
Mr. Pemberton also noted that meetings will be held regularly with the key stake holders to ensure that everything is put in place well in advance of the event and he appealed to the business entities to make significant contributions towards making what will be a costly event possible, recognizing the huge potential for profit making for the Nevis economy, in the long run.

StarMile2.5 eröffnet eine Woche voll Sport und Entspannung auf Nevis
Der TriStar111 Nevis lädt neben dem Rennen auch zum Urlaub auf dieser wunderschönen Insel ein.
Eine ganze Woche voller Sport und Spass wird am 27. März mit StarMile 2.5 Nevis~St.Kitts eröffnet, einem 2.5-Meilen Schwimmen auf offener See im Kanal zwischen den Karbikinseln St.Kitts und Nevis. Die Teilnehmer des am 2. April stattfindenden TriStar111 Nevis erwartet in den Tagen vor dem einzigartigen Triathlon-Bewerb ein abwechlsungreiches Programm.
In seinem 9. Bestandsjahr wird der “Nevis to St.Kitts cross-channel swim“ in StarMile2.5 umgetauft. Der Bewerb eröffnet eine Woche, gespickt mit Sport, Spass und Erholung auf der Insel Nevis in der Karibik. StarMile2.5 Nevis~St.Kitts Cross Channel Swim findet am Sonntag, 27. März statt und die Teilnehmer werden im Karibischen Meer 2.5 Meilen (4km) von einer Insel zur anderen schwimmen. Das Rennen startet vom Oualie Beach in Nevis und endet in der Cockleshell Bucht der Nachbarinsel St.Kitts. Die Rekordzeit wurde im Frühjahr 2010 von Rhian Purdy mit 1:05:21 vorgelegt.
„Eine der Attraktionen dieser Veranstatung ist, dass es eben nicht nur ein Rennen ist, sondern eine Herausforderung. Diejenigen, die nicht so schnell oder gut schwimmen können, dürfen sich gerne mit Schnorchel und Flossen durch den wunderschönen Kanal bewegen“ sagt Winston Crooke, Präsident der St. Kitts & Nevis Triathlonföderation.
Am Samstag, dem 2. April 2011 folgt der TriStar111 Nevis. Die Athleten werden höchstwahrscheinlich die gesamte Woche davor auf der Insel bleiben, um sich darauf vorzubereiten und um ausgiebigen Bilderbuchurlaub zu machen. Nicht umsonst wird die Insel auch „die Königin der Karibik“ genannt. Die Organisatoren garantieren die komplette Woche für Unterhaltung. Jeden Tag gibt es wechselnde Themen. Dienstag ist der Eholung gewidmet. Das bedeutet: Reitausflüge am Strand, Kayakfahren und Tiefseefischen. Am Mittwoch steht ein Charity-Fun-Run über 5km am Programm, bei dem in Kooperation mit Livestrong™ Gelder für die in Nevis ansässige Pink Lily Brustkrebsorganisation gesammelt werden. Am Donnerstag gibt es Seminare mit TriStar Botschaftern und Profi-Sportlern, wie beispielsweise dem zweifachen Ironman Weltmeister Chris McCormack. Hier wird über Rennstrategien und effiziente Trainingsvorbereitungen aus dem Nähkästchen geplaudert. Am Freitag geht es um Umweltschutz und die 4vita Organisation, die mit Aktionen und Informationskampagnen ein Thema anpackt, das Tag für Tag an Aktualität gewinnt.
Jeden Abend bieten gleich zwei Lokale Spezialangebote für TriStar und StarMile Teilnehmer an, um den Athleten und ihren Familien einen kulinarischen Einblick in die veilfältige Inselküche zu bieten.
Am Samstag, dem 2. April findet also das Hauptrennen statt. Der TriStar111 Nevis, bestehend aus 1km Schwimmen, 100km Rad fahren und 10km Laufen, bildet den krönenden Abschluss einer Karibischen Woche, die am Samstag Abend mit der StarNight Siegerehrungsparty zu Ende gehen wird.
Die 93km2 große Insel Nevis liegt in der Nähe der nördlichen Spitze der Kleinen Antillen Inselgruppe, etwa 320km südlich von Puerto Rico, und westlich von Antigua. Dieses Schmuckstück ist etwa 11km lang und 8km breit und besitzt eine natürliche Vegetation die ihres gleichen sucht. Nevis ist einer der wenigen unberührten Orte auf der Welt und trägt zu Recht den Spitznamen „Königin der Karibik“. Vom Gipfel des 989m hohen Nevis Peak bis in die Tiefen des klaren Meeres vor der Küste, findet man eine einzigartige Flora und Fauna, die sich für Erkundungstrips anbietet.
