Portocolom

Portocolom is the port of Felanitx and the town counts about 4.000 inhabitants. A quiet fishing village located in the south-east of Mallorca, Portocolom is one of the largest natural harbours on the island, and during the summer a haven for many boats looking for its calm waters. It is a great place for those seeking the typical sailor charm: the charm of a fishing port.

In the past it was shelter for the travellers of the Mare Nostrum (Roman name for the Mediterranean Sea). From the bay you can view the sanctuary of San Salvador and Santueri Castle, built in defence of pirates and buccaneers. Portocolom can be found documented in history books since the the 13th century, as a port steeped in history and with a long tradition in trade. The seafaring spirit of the place, its traditional crafts, attachment to land, indigenous dances, the local gastronomy, all this are still hallmarks of a Mediterranean village as multiple, endless and diverse as his own life.
