Paco Wrolich- Tell us how your career has been linked to the cycling as a former professional and how it changed now organizing high quality cycling and triathlon events...

I started with the cycling sport when I was 11. At the age of 12 I won my first races and became also Austrian champion. At the age of 16 I won my first races as a member of the Austria national team and in 1999 I started my career as a pro with team Gerolsteiner in Germany. I was a pro for the next 12 years and participated in many Tour de Frances and other big races all around the globes.

As a cyclist I was always interested how do`s the organization of big races works. I looked behind the curtain at every single race. It was interesting to see how different cycling races are organized. That was maybe also the reason I changed side after the end of my career in 2010. I started to work with StarEvents and was from now on involved into organization of cycling and triathlon events. I hope I can bring some of my experience from the past to our events. I know what cyclist and athletes are expecting and what they are asking for. I still think like a sportsman and this helps me to understand athletes who are participating at our events.

Italian Philip Goetsch has won the 3rd edition of the Kärnten Radmarathon ahead of his breakaway companion and teammate Hans-Peter Obwaller, while the women's event was won by Nadja Prieling.

Like nervous racehorses, nearly 1,000 participants shuffled before the start of the third StarTour Bad Kleinkirchheim Radmarathon in Carinthia yesterday morning. There was an anxious air of anticipation on the start line but that soon passed once the race started.

The large number of competitors soon split into small groups on the road due to the fast pace set at the start.

The first attack came up the ascent to Schiestlscharte, a arduous climb of 2,024 meters, by last year's runner Philip Goetsch. Hans-Peter Obwaller was the first to react and joined Goetsch while the rest of the field was left behind. The time gap increased up the ten kilometre climb, and by the top Goetsch and Obwaller has amassed a 4 minute lead on the chasing bunch. Obwaller reached the summit first to claim the King of Nockalm title.

Austrian marathon champion Ewald Robeischl and Gebhard Pertl, a local who lives near Bad Kleinkirchheim, could not manage to close the gap. The Italian Götsch and Austrian Obwaller continued to work well together and reached the the last climb with a solid advantage.

As the pair entered the final kilometres the race for the title was on. With 500m to go, Götsch attacked and Obwaller was not able to respond leaving the Italian to claim victory and improve on his second place last year. Obwaller rolled across the line for a well deserved 2nd place. Robeischl, Paul Lindner and Pertl rounded out the top 5 places.

In the ladies competition, Nadja Prieling (3:28:38 hours) took the victory ahead of Karin Gruber, Lisa Pleyer and Marlies Penker.

The 65km "two lakes competition" was taken out by Patrick Plankensteiner (men's) and Eveline Egarter (women's).

Sunday the 29th of May will see the 3rd edition of the “Kaernten Radmarathon in Bad Kleinkircheim”. With around 1,000 riders expected on the start line, organisers are predicting the most successful edition yet of the Radmarathon.

The weekend is filled with numerous activities from charity events to pasta parties however the highlight of the festival will no doubt be the ride through the natural valley of the “Nockberge Region”, which will provide participants with stunning scenery in the almost untouched nature. The course will feature the Schiestelscharte and the Eiseltalhöhe; both tough climbs over 2,000 meters.

In last years edition, Italian Philip Götsch claimed the “King of the Nockalm” title while Andy Traxl was the winner of the Marathon. Both riders are lining up again this year.

More than 900 starters from 12 different nations will be participating including an astonishing 230 participants from Italy!

The Bad Kleinkirchheim Radmarathon festival is also an excellent opportunity go get the family together and participate in the "Family ride", a 65km hilly but not too hard course that encourages participation from the whole family. This course is called the "Two lakes ride" and is a perfect course for those cyclists who are not up to tackling the climbs of the Radmarathon, or who prefer a shorter distance course.

The weekend festivities will finish with a big party on Sunday afternoon. Everyone is welcome to celebrate their achievement or the achievement of family and friends.

Don't forget that it's not too late to enter!!! The entry fee is 40€ which includes timing, starting gift, catering at the start and finish area, and feeding zones.
