Graves: “I cooked Andersson on the Run.”
Ficker: “The course is beautiful and the race was run immaculately.”

Philip Graves and Desiree Ficker won TriStar111 Estonia. Steady sunshine and temperatures above 33 degrees made it a hot day of triathlon racing. Philip Graves (GBR) won the race covering 1km of swimming, 100km of cycling and 10km of running with a total time of 3:13:43. Desiree Ficker (USA) dominated the female race and finished first in 3:37:02. 74 relays composed of 3 competitors started eleven minutes after the individual athletes, and the first relay finished with a total race time of 3:09:46 and a couple of minutes after the male winners.

Today’s TriStar111 Estonia 2010 has attracted 274 individual athletes and 74 relays to race in Otepää in the South of Estonia. The race start was given on the beach of Pühajärv, the “Holy Lake”, at 11:00 local time for 111km of Triathlon fun on.

The 1km SWIM in the 25°C waters was completed in 12min 20sec by Philip Graves from Great Britain. Just seconds behind were Björn Andersson (12:24), and Chris McCormack (AUS, 12:26). Chris changed very quickly in the transition area and started the bike first.

On the 100km BIKE leg of the race, Björn Andersson and Philip Graves pushed hard and managed to make the gap to the following athletes longer and longer. It was not until km 85 that Andersson decided to pull away in order to go on the run having the lead. Bkörn Andersson finished the cycling leg 2:29:11 after the race start. Graves followed at 2:31:26, and Thomas Hellriegel with 2:39:03.

The 10km RUN was the hardest part of today’s race – short, demanding, and under the burning heat of the sometimes underestimated Estonian sun. With temperatures above 33°C it was a hot race that Philip Graves could win. He managed to take the lead pretty early into the run. At km 5, he was already more than 3 minutes ahead of Andersson. Graves won his forst international title at TriStar111 Estonia 2010 with a Finish time of 3:13:42. Björn Andersson followed at 3:19:04, Thomas Hellriegel finished 3rd in 3:21:30.

The women’s race was thrilling all the same. Kairi Schmidt from Estonia was the first out of the water in 13:36. Close behind was Tanja Slater (GBR) with 13:46. Third was Helen Schmidt with 14:23. Desiree Ficker (USA) was 4th 20 seconds down. Ficker took the lead quite early in the race and would not let it go anymore today. She finished the three loops of the bike course around Lake Pühajärv after 2:53:14. Slater came in second after 3:04:33, followed by Venla Koinvunla from Finland. Until arriving at the Finihsline, Ficker extended the lead and finished in 3:37:02. Slater came in second in 3:51:26, and Alma Sarapuu (FIN) in 4:06:48.

TriStar111 Estonia is just around the corner, and athletes as well as staff are flying in to Otepää in the South of Estonia. The race week officially starts on Thursday with the opening of the Star&Co Village and registration of athletes. Thursday evening is reserved for a special evening event in the Otepää adventure park - make sure you're a part of it if you're already in Otepää as it will be great fun - guaranteed!

On Friday, TriStar11.1 Estonia will take place with 100m of swimming, 10km of cycling and 1km of running. Children and triathlon rookies will participate in this fun race putting everyone in the right mood for the TriStar111 race the day after! The Live-Briefings will also take place on Friday (18h00 in English, 18h30 in Estonian), followed by the Energy Night in the Pühajärve SPA Hotel terrace and gardens.

Saturday 7 AUG 2010 is race day for TriStar111 Estonia. The start will be given at 11 for the individuals. Relay athletes will leave 11 minutes later, and the question throughout the race will be: "Will the relay teams catch up and win, or will the best individual athlete cross the finish line first?". The winners are expected around 14h20 at the Finish, while everyone has time until 17h00 to accomplish the 111km. Other than in classic long distance races, no need to relax for hours and hours after 1km of swimming, 100km of cycling and 10km of running. TriStar is different, and in Estonia this is exactly what you will see! The Star Night Awards Party will commence at 19h00, followed by a Live Rock Concert by Supernova! Did we mention the singer Rainer Michelson will race during the day? Fun and challenge, there you go!

There will be live coverage on TriStarLive.com, so you can follow the race with updates, images, videos and very flexible live tracking - log into any intermediate split for example and check who's just passed. Or take a closer look at the personal results of your favourites. Please mind time differences might apply - at the moment Estonia is 3 hours ahead of GMT because of daylight saving time, so it's one hour ahead of central Europe (Berlin, Paris, Rome) and 2 hours ahead of London time. Shining sun, blue sky, refreshing in "Holy See", a great atmosphere among spectators and athletes and a fantastic race -  the Tristar111 Estonia has offered everything an athlete’s heart can desire.

A heart and a statement

And the people who were there have shown their heart! They have demonstrated that it is not just about swimming, cycling and running: in cooperation with Livestrong™ the TriStar111 Estonia has launched a fundraising campaign for Tallinn’s Children Hospital and its cancer unit.  Dedicated volunteers have informed the visitors to set the spotlight on this crucial topic and collected donations. At the end of the weekend everywhere around Püharjäve supporters could be seen: wearing a yellow Livestrong™ bracelet, as a sign of solidarity and of active support!

MANY THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT to all donors!

Through the activities during race weekend in Püharjäve we were able to collect almost 15,000 Kroons for the little cancer patient. Money, which enables the children much needed help in your fight against cancer.

Benefiting Tallinn’s Children Hospital

In Estonia the public health care institutions cannot cover all potential costs for the full medical treatment of cancer patients. In fact some additional medication treatments require extra budgets. The Tallinn’s Children Hospital is committed beyond measure for his patients, and in order to give them the full treatment extra funds are needed- up to 10.000-20.000 Kroons (around 650 – 1.300 Euros) per child. The money collected thus could already cover an extra medication for one child.

And what about the other 19?

We should follow this path further on- no, we must. Every child and every cancer patient should get the best possible treatment! Each year an average of 20 children are diagnosed with malignant tumors in Estonia. And these children desperately need our help. Donate too and help the children at Tallinn’s Children Hospital to win the fight against cancer! Every single donation helps!

In the process of registration for TriStar111 Estonia 2011 each athlete gets the opportunity to donate a certain amount in order to serve this purpose. We also offer a permanent online donation tool, in which each and every one of us is called to act as a fundraiser by encouraging his friends and family to join the initiative. The most successful fundraiser will be rewarded with a free entry for 2011 and might also become the TriStar Livestrong ambassador for 2011 in Monaco’s event.

In cooperation with Livestrong™ TriStar supports local projects and institutions that are united by the fight against cancer.
