It was a fantastic and exciting race for all participants. The first TriStar111 in Monaco and the fourth in general attracted over 660 athletes and elated lots of spectators all around Monaco. Olivier Marceau (SUI) won the race with Mikel Elgezabal (ESP) on the 2nd place and Regis Maniora (LUX) on the 3rd. On the women’s side Christel Robin (FRA) crossed the finish line first. The best relay team was the Livestrong Team No. 2 with Gregory Mallet (SWIM), Geoffroy Lequatre (CYCLE) and Marcel Zamora (RUN).

1km of swimming, 100km of cycling and 10km of running are the unique TriStar distances, which are adding up to 111km! This was the total distance that had to be mastered at the TriStar111 Monaco. With a cycling course covering an altitude of about 700 meters and a 2 lap 10km run on the worldwide well known Formula 1 course. At 8.00 am today the sea was calm when over 660 athletes rushed into the waters of Larvotto beach. It was Olivier Marceau who came out of the water first, namely in 12:10 minutes – only four seconds ahead of Hervé Banti from Monaco. Behind him, Chris McCormack (AUS) and Romain Cadiere (FRA) were the first to follow him to the transition area. Christel Robin was the first of the female professionals to touch solid ground (14:41), leaving Sara Tavecchio (ITA) and Charlotte Loaring (CAN) behind her.

670 individuals and 40 Relay Teams in Pole Position for 111km of Sport and Fun on Sunday.

TriStar111 Monaco takes place on Sunday 5 September in the Principality of Monaco. Some famous sportsmen from other disciplines will have a go at the Formula One of Triathlons, and some of the sport’s greatest athletes will try to prove that the unique TriStar format has a powerful arrival on the triathlon map.

The starting guns will go off at 8:00 o’clock Sunday morning for a unique Triathlon covering 1km of swimming in the Mediterranean, 100km of cycling through the breathtaking hinterland, and 10km of running along the world-famous Formula One circuit through the Principality of Monaco. 670 individual athletes have signed up for the race that is the third over the innovative distances that have been presented by Star Production SARL earlier this year.

Chris McCormack (AUS), Ironman and ITU-distance World Champion will be competing against Olivier Marceau (SUI), Hervé Banti (MON), Mikel Elgezabal (ESP), Romain Cadière (FRA), and 10 more professional athletes in the male category. On the Female side, winner of last year’s Ironman 70.3 (the format that has been replaced by TriStar111) Christel Robin (FRA) will try to defend her pole position against Dina Braguti (ITA), Coralie Lemaire (BEL), and Sara Tavecchio (ITA).

The Formula One of Triathlons attracted Celebrities – and international TV Stations

It was an exciting race for all participants. The first TriStar111 in Monaco and the third over this distance attracted 628 individual athletes and 43 Relay Teams. TV Stations from Germany, great Britain, France, Spain and Austria will cover the event with Triathlon stars and Formula One pilots. Olivier Marceau (SUI) and Christel Robin (FRA) are the winners of the race. The best relay team was the a team racing to raise awareness for Livestrong’s fight against cancer composed of Grégory Mallet (swim), Geoffroy Lequatre (bike) and Marcel Zamora (run).

This was the total distance that had to be mastered at today’s TriStar111 Monaco featuring a cycling course covering a total climbing altitude of more than 2000 meters and a 2,5 lap run on the world famous Formula 1 circuit in the Principality of Monaco. Shortly before 8:00 the Mediterranean was calm when the 628 individual athletes rushed into the waters offshore Larvotto beach. It was Olivier Marceau who came out of the water first in 12:10 minutes – only four seconds ahead of Hervé Banti from Monaco. Chris McCormack (AUS) and Romain Cadière (FRA) were the first to follow to the transition area. Christel Robin was the first of the female professionals to touch solid ground (14:41), leaving Sara Tavecchio (ITA) and Charlotte Loaring (CAN) behind.

While the first individuals already finished swimming, the Team Relay Challenge start gun went off at 8:15. Gregory Mallet running in the Livestrong Team No. 2 (12:13) was the first out of the water and handing over his timing chip to his team’s cyclist, Geoffroy Lequatre from the Radioshack Team. 1min30 behind, Fred Sultana from the Livestrong team No. 3 came out of the water one minute and 30 seconds later. On the third place after the swim course: Paul Lanat (ACF Tri Team), one minute and 46 seconds down.

The bike course from the Larvotto area –2km through the Principality of Monaco in the direction of Roquebrune Cap-Martin, then to the hinterland on French territory, is a very demanding one. Climbs alternate with very technical downhill sections. Olivier Marceau was leading on the bike for the whole race and managed to increase the advantage on the chase group to 2 minutes and 29 seconds. The second athlete in the bike park to change for the run was Mikel Elgezabel of Spain. Third was Regis Maniora (LUX), 6:16 minutes down.

On the women’s side Christel Robin made a sovereign race. She virtually ran away of the remaining female field and finished impressive 17 minutes and 18 seconds before Coralie Lemaire (BEL) and Annika Segg from Germany. Livestrong Team No. 2 with Geoffroy Lequatre on the bike could keep the lead.

The Mirabeau hairpin bends, the Rascasse and the Tunnel Louis II are the key locations of the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit in Monaco. On the 2 and a half loops run participants had the opportunity to experience how steep the climbs and the descents are on the track. Olivier Marceau kept his lead throughout the whole course and finished in 3:44:51. The chasers Mikel Elgezabal and Regis Maniora crossed the finish line in 3:47:38 and 3:53:56 respectively.

On the women’s side Christel Robin crossed the finish line first in 4:07:40 leaving Coralie Lemaire (4:30:26) and Annika Seeg from Germany (4:40:02) behind

The best Relay Team was the Livestrong Team No. 2 (Gregory Mallet, Geoffroy Lequatre, Marcel Zamora) in 3:34:48, followed by Azur Perf Cycles Antipolis 1 (Raphael Smolin, Cedric Barret, Didier Roux) and the 4vita team (Marion Hillenbrand, Fred Philippe, Brice Gauffier).

VIPP – Very Important “Privat” People

Some VIPs participated and raced as private people in the Formula One of Triathlons. Jenson Button for the Livestrong Team No. 2 (Button, Wurz, Rosberg) had a impressed on the swim leg and came out of the water in 9th position (15:03). The cycling course and Bruno Senna were meant for each other. He overtook Alexander Wurz around kilometre 80. Still the team Button/Wurz/Rosberg finished after a strong run of Nico Rosberg on the 18th position. Just one minute and eight seconds behind came the second team of Formula One pilots: Lucas di Grassi (20. rank) and Bruno Senna, who had a blast at their “weekend off” before racing Monza next weekend.

Just one day to go! The favourites of the TriStar111 Monaco gathered at todays press conference at 10 o’clock and shared their feelings and thoughts.

More than 660 individuals and 40 relay teams are registrated for the big race tomorrow. Only few of them have real chances for victory. In one point all of the professional athletes agreed. The TriStar111 Monaco is going to be a tough competition. The condition of each athlete will decide about victory or defeat over the 1km SWIM, 100km CYCLING and 10km RUN.

17 male and 4 female professional athletes are going to be at the starting line on Sunday at 8:00. Top favourite and Winner of the 1st TriStar111 in Germany Chris McCormack (AUS) about the course: “It’s a difficult distance. On the page it looks easy but the cycling course is hard, because you can’t give up any ground.” About his expactions for the race: “I am a lot fitter than a few weeks ago, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow.” He even has some advise for his rivals: “The swim is over before you know it and the bike distance is very aggressive. So, if you want to win, be aggressive from the start.”

Jenson Button, Bruno Senna, Lucas Di Grassi, and Alexander Wurz racing this Sunday – swimming, cycling and running.

TriStar111 Monaco over 1km of swimming, 100km of cycling and 10km of running becomes a popular pastime for Formula 1 drivers on their free weekend. Button, Senna, Di Grassi and Wurz will mingle with the 660 individual competitors and the 40 relay teams to spend a day of fun in the Principality of Monaco.

Formula 1 pilots will be racing TriStar111 Monaco on Sunday. They know every turn and bend in the streets of Monaco, and will profit from the unique opportunity to run along the original F1 circuit in the Principality while the roads are closed for traffic.

World Champion Jenson Button (Great Britain) will compete in the race as well as Bruno Senna (Ayrton Senna’s nephew) and Lucas di Grassi (both Brasil). Former Formula 1 pilot and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Alexander Wurz (Austria) will also be at the starting line of the triathlon.

What they do to fight cancer

GEMLUC (Groupement des Entreprises Monegasques dans la Lutte contre le Cancer) is a charitable association founded in 1973 to fight against this plague which is cancer.

Since its establishment it has raised 1.580.000 € which have been used for all kinds of aspects in the fight against cancer:

  • Aid in buying innovative material for hospitals
  • Aid for patients

GEMLUC has decided to launch the competition/exposition "GemlucArt" to raise further funds for this fight.
