“An athlete is not born as a champion, he becomes it even without winning. The desire to arrive, achieve goals, overcome them and create new ones to overcome transforms an athlete to a champion. Sailing is a sport that from a mental point of view absorbs you many energies, triathlon fits perfectly in this life: hard work, dedication, fun! The beautiful location has also enticed 4 my "colleagues" sailors to accompany me!”

You're a great lover of sailing, a sport you practice at the highest level since you will be participating to the next London Olympic Games. How triathlon fits in your physical and mental preparation for a so important challenge?
First, for good luck, don’t talk about London 2012! Trials will begin on March 2011, I have very good chances being the number one in the Italian ranking... but you never know! I compete on a boat where the physical preparation is essential so the triathlon is an excellent dry preparation. Sailing in general is a sport that from a mental point of view absorbs you many energies, spending hours after hours in the sea waiting for the wind or racing at the highest levels while other people stay willingly under the covers are factors that modify your approach to all situations in life. Triathlon fits perfectly in this life: hard work, dedication, fun!

How have you approached triathlon and what distances you have you experienced?
I approached triathlon since I cycle, run and.. float…swim is a buzzword yet! In the world of sailing bike is a second sport for everyone: shoes, helmet, bike and then way down to release the fatigue and nerves of a day in the sea! Except for one Sprint and one Olympic distance races I did a couple of years ago, this is my first experience on such a long distance!

Why did you choose the TriStar222 in Sardinia and what you expect from this new race?
I chose TriStar222 both for the suitable schedule, since I have almost finished the sailing season, and for especially for the challenge it represents. 2km swim, 200km cycle and 20km run are not a “walk” and it takes dedication and madness to get ready. When I talk about the race with people, they look at me as if I were an alien, but then I see in their eyes that they believe in me a bit! Besides, the beautiful location has also enticed 4 my "colleagues" sailors to accompany me and create a fan club, supporting and giving the energy not to “do a fool"! Objective: cross the finish line….within time limit!

In your opinion which are the characteristic that an athlete must have to meet ambitious targets?
An athlete is not born as a champion, he becomes it even without winning. The desire to arrive, achieve goals, overcome them and create new ones to overcome transforms an athlete to a champion. We’re all champions, each of us has found an area of life where you do are a champion, in which you are valued and respected. Perseverance and desire to grow are all to an athlete for achieving ambitious goals, for someone is to break a record and for another is to finish the race.

Les FALABRACS Relay Team

Patricia has 48 years and will the swimming
Jean-Jacques has 56 years and will bet the bike
Magali has 30 years and will be our jogger

Nice Triathlon Club ( Website) has several accomplished athletes.

However, we like engaging in this sport at all levels. Because we usually organize two events in NICE, we appreciate both local and international events.

As we approach the close of our sporting season, which has been rich in events, we, Patricia, Jean-Jacques and Magali, have decided to form a competitive and friendly team of “falabracs”.

Praticia has been competing in the triathlon for 10 years, in the short distance triathlon and half ironman.

Jean-Jacques also has been competing in the triathlon for 10 years ; having concentrated more on the long distance triathlon for a period of 5 years.

After suffering from an injury for a year, Magali is returning to the sport with more confidence in the short distance triathlon. She will however attempt to compete in the long distance triathlon next season.

We are greatly motivated to do our utmost best to complete the season in a spectacular fashion.

Many athletes already use Performance Sports Nutrition products which are known for their efficiency, quality and taste. Our last "Performer" to date is no other than Tine Deckers, twice winner of the Ironman in Nice in 2009 and 2010 and qualified for Ironman Hawaii.

We are proud of this partnership and are launching at the TriStar111 Monaco. A famous name is added to the list of participants of the first edition of TriStar222 Sardinia; it is Massimo Benetton, architect and heir of the family known throughout the world for the fashion brand.

I AM Sports & Events Consulting has welcomed the enthusiasm of Massimo Benetton and his desire to face a difficult test like the 222 distance, providing technical support and qualified staff to adequately prepare him for the race.

Sergio Contin, technical manager for the long distance sector Fitri, is following the preparation of Benetton, flanked by Carlo Berizzi, nutritionist specialist in Food Science.

"Disability is in the mind. The human species has the ability to adapt to the accidents of life, the tragedies that strike us are challenges"

What prompted you to practice triathlon, despite the difficulties due to your "disability"?
In the 90s the triathlon was not allowed! What convinced me to practice is that the triathlon has become a democratic sport.

What reasons have led you to subscribe to TriStar222 Sardinia, a very challenging race, especially for the long bicycle course?
I regularly do Ironman distance races; the important thing is to have a good preparation, disability is in the mind.

Certainly, many might be surprised to see you participate in triathlons, what do you answer to those asking you how you deal with efforts so intense?
The human species has the ability to adapt to the accidents of life, the tragedies that strike us are challenges. The training is a part of the efforts to address this capacity that the person faces; I've decided to face the rest of the suffering.

What do you expect from the race in October in Sardinia?
Many emotions and especially the joy of participating in such an event, and also being recognized as a real triathlete. Four years ago I crossed the Atlantic rowing, there were 2 people with no legs out of 26 boats and we came third!

"I am excited by challenges, and the more extreme the more excitement I experience! This race has special attractions. Firstly the location: for those like me who do not know the great part of Sardinia, when is a better time to visit?”

Michele Carlin is an athlete coming from Trentino; he already took part in the TriStar111 Germany and decided to participate in the TriStar222 Sardinia.

We asked him what he expects from the race, how he’s been getting ready and what he thinks about the new formats of the Tristar competitions.
