Amy, the winner of TriStar Minnesota 2011, is on her way to TriStar Nevis ! You want to join TriStar Nevis too? Do it now! All TriStar Nevis starters will get a 50% discount on TriStar111 Minnesota 2012 RACE Registration!

Why did you decide to sign up for TriStar Nevis? I raced TriStar Minnesota last year and LOVED the distance! When I learned about the race in Nevis, I knew I wanted to be there. It is not the ideal time for me, given that I'm racing Duathlon Nationals just one week prior, but I absolutely wanted to make it happen.  I race professionally because I CAN, not because I depend on it, as I have a full-time career outside of the sport. So, I try to pick the races that I really want to do, and those which offer a combination of adventure, vacation, and new experiences are always going to be at the top of my list. Travel and Triathlon are probably my two biggest passions; TriStar Nevis seemed like a perfect way to combine them!

It's not your first TriStar, so what did you like most in your first TRiStar? The short swim, the long bike, and the fast run!  I also loved the energy and the international flair that was added to a race right here in the United States, too.  Lindsey K. and her team did a fantastic job managing the race in Maple Grove (TriStar MN) and the international team that came over from Europe was gracious, welcoming, and full of energy for amateurs and pros alike. It was a non-intimidating event, and one that celebrated each athlete's accomplishments. I would love to see more

Jose Rosales-Yepez, a persistent and very hard working triathlete from Venezuela, is looking forward to his 2012 season and the first as a PRO. His first PRO season will be made very memorable as he makes a stop in Minnesota for TriStar Minnesota 2012 competing for the $10,000 PRO cash purse powered by Urban TRI. His accomplishments are inspiring and exciting; enjoy reading Jose’s story as we look forward to welcoming him in August

Why did you decide to sign up for TriStar Minnesota?
I actually wanted to do the race in 2011, but I was out with a stress fracture (right foot). Anyway, I was born and raised in Venezuela and moved to the U.S to get my college education. My parents come to visit me every summer between August and September and because of the feedback from the 2011 race and the coinciding dates, I decided to make this race a priority so that my parents can watch me compete. Now that I will be racing as a Professional, it will make this race even more special.

What is your career highlight to date?
In triathlons, it has to be winning two races in the same weekend (Oregon Park Distric tri, IL & Rockford Olympic, IL & both course records) back in 2010. Even though both races were small, I had to travel about 1,000 miles round trip for both races (car with no A/C) and spend a couple of nights tent camping in a state park—good times!

Share a memorable moment you have experienced throughout your career.
I had 4 overall wins in 2010, and one Age group win. The age group win was during a half iron distance (70.3) race in Missouri. I had a killer swim and about 1 mile into the bike leg, I heard an explosion— it was my rear wheel being slashed by a metal rod. Ugh, race over I thought… no wait a second—I ran the mile back to transition (barefoot),

The start of the TriStar111 MinnesotaHave a look on what athletes said about TriStar Minnesota after the race ;)

A.J. Baucco:
"The TriStar111 racing format is truly the most unique and exhilarating distance in the sport of Triathlon. It gives athletes an opportunity to mix long course endurance with short course intensity without destroying the body for future events. TriStar111 Minnesota is perfect for both the athlete looking for a challenge and the athlete looking for a tune up race that won't leave them recovering for weeks. I highly recommend making this race a priority on everyone's racing schedule."

Mac Brown:

“The race organizers and local community during the inaugural TriStar Minnesota were world class. The race format provided a unique experience for all athletes, and it did not stop there. The post race festivities aboard the river boat were just as memorable as the race itself. Do yourself a favor and race TriStar MN in 2012, you won't be disappointed.”

Amy Kloner:
“I'm so excited to return to beautiful Maple Grove in 2012. The distance is perfect and doesn't completely shred you like a longer event might-- I love the TriStar format.  This race is just a ton of fun-- good people, beautiful scenery, challenging course, and a well-run event.”

Karl Bordine: “Great venue. Great distance.”
