Paco Wrolich- Tell us how your career has been linked to the cycling as a former professional and how it changed now organizing high quality cycling and triathlon events...

I started with the cycling sport when I was 11. At the age of 12 I won my first races and became also Austrian champion. At the age of 16 I won my first races as a member of the Austria national team and in 1999 I started my career as a pro with team Gerolsteiner in Germany. I was a pro for the next 12 years and participated in many Tour de Frances and other big races all around the globes.

As a cyclist I was always interested how do`s the organization of big races works. I looked behind the curtain at every single race. It was interesting to see how different cycling races are organized. That was maybe also the reason I changed side after the end of my career in 2010. I started to work with StarEvents and was from now on involved into organization of cycling and triathlon events. I hope I can bring some of my experience from the past to our events. I know what cyclist and athletes are expecting and what they are asking for. I still think like a sportsman and this helps me to understand athletes who are participating at our events.

Jan Ullrich, StarEvents Ambassador

Why did you decide to become an Ambassador for Star Events?

Star Events is specializing in the organization of great high quality sports events that are focused on fun and social behaviour. With Grand Fondo USA they have created a great product for amateur cyclists and along with Georg Hochegger and Paco Wrolich, we aim to create and organize additional Gran Fondos in Germany and all around the world.

What is your career highlight to date?

Of course, my Tour de France win in 1997. No German cycle athlete before in history won it. On the other hand my Olympic Gold medal in Sydney 2000 is another big moment of my career. Compared to work and fight over three weeks to reach the victory of an circle race it is totally different to win a daily race. You do not know before the race what you expect at the end of the day.

Share a memorable moment you have experienced throughout your career.

Oh, there are a lot of memorable moments but no special I remember. Well, you always combine them with your good results and victories.

How is your relation to Triathlon?

I always followed on TV the big contests and was wondering how triathletes can swim, biking and run so fast on one day? The new TriStar111 format of Star Events provides perfect distances for cyclists and its short swimming and running distances and easy recovery formats. Well, let’s see. First I have to improve my swimming and running level before to think about a start on a triathlon race.

Share a most embarrassing moment you have experienced in your career.

For sure my fall in the second time trial race Pornic-Nantes of the Tour de France 2003. We had really wet and slippy conditions on that day. I was really close behind Lance Armstrong before the time trial and had the great chance to win the Tour for my second time. Unfortunately I crashed and everything was over for me. At the end I finished second place on Champs-Elysee and in my opinion this was one of my best but most unlucky Tour attendances.

What do you like the most about GranFondo? What do you expect from GranFondo races?

The mix of values to have fun while still being competitive. With events like Miami, with its picturesque landscapes with the view to the Caribbean sea or Gran Fondo Los Angeles where cyclists ride on the world famous Rodeo Drive, Gran Fondo World has created a series with something unique and special for everyone who participates. It will be great fun to stand on the start line with thousands of amateur cyclist to take part in the Grand Fondo “Italian style”.

Family memories! For it’s 10th anniversary StarMile Nevis&Saint Kitts has beaten a new record of participants as it was sold out. 150 athletes were on the start line to face a new challenge. For the first time the 2,5 mile swim started in St Kitts to finish in Nevis where an important crowd and a buffet party was waiting for the swimmers.

This was an open race as the two recordman of the distance Chris Mc Cormack and Olivier Marceau were not there to défendtheir title. Olivier Marceau, his expected this week on the Island to compete in the TriStar111 Nevis next Saturday.  After 1H08 the first man to reach Nevis was Brian Harts (USA) who arrived 3 minutes before his runner up a 14 year old kid Sachin Sankat from Trinidad and Tobago.
