Portocolom Olympic Triathlon becomes TriStar55.5 after 13 years of successful event history and adds the successful TriStar111 format
The Spanish island of Mallorca is a paradise for Triathletes, and now offers a brand new race with unique distances: TriStar111 Portocolom in the municipality of Felanitx brings fun to the island on 17 April 2011. 1km of swimming, 100km of cycling and 10km of running add up to the total distance of 111km. The Olympic distance triathlon that took place for the past 13 years now becomes TriStar55.5 and will be held the same day.
The island of Mallorca is a place where triathletes love to travel in order to swim, bike and run. Now there is even more reason to spend the vacations there while participating in a professionally organized triathlon: TriStar111 and TriStar55.5 Mallorca offer unique distances to those who love to combine the triple effort with vacations in breathtaking destinations.
During the past 13 years, the organizers of Portocolom Triathlon tweaked their Olympic distance triathlon to provide a safe race for their participants. From 2011 on, this race will take place under the TriStar brand and offer two race formats on 17 April 2011. TriStar111 is the most sought-after TriStar with 1km of swimming, 100km of cycling and 10km of running. TriStar races are easy to understand, do not require signing up a year in advance and most importantly: the shorter swim and run courses allow for quicker recovery after the race, and more fun! TriStar111 Mallorca is open for individual athletes or relay teams that can be composed of two or three participants.
On the very same day, TriStar55.5 Mallorca will replace the former Portocolom Triathlon. This format covers a total distance of 55.5km while still providing the easy-to-understand approach that TriStar has brought to the sport: Choose your favourite cycling distance, and then divide it by 10 for the run and by 100 for the swim. 0.5km of swimming, 50km of cycling and 5km of running add up to TriStar55.5 Mallorca.
Both TriStar111 and TriStar55.5 will take athletes on the same courses. TriStar111 participants will do two loops of each while 55.5 athletes will complete only one. The swim will take place in Portocolom’s harbour; the bike loop will take them along a rolling course including the spectacular climb of Sant Salvador, well known by thousands of triathletes and cyclists who are visiting Mallorca each year, with its 494m height and awesome views towards the island and the southeast coast. The run will take athletes from the old town along the beaches of the Portocolom bay before they cross the finish line of TriStar Mallorca.
The authentic village of Portocolom is located in the southern half of the east coast of the Balearic island of Mallorca, about 65km from Palma. The village belonging to the municipality of Felanitx is popular for not providing mass commercialisation – so those looking for water parks and endless karaoke bars will need to look elsewhere. Portocolom has the largest natural harbour of the island, and claims to be birthplace of Christopher Columbus, whose voyages led to general European awareness of the American continents.
The TriStar label is owned by Star Production SARL, a Monaco based company specialized in organising high quality sports events that are focused on fun, social responsibility and environmental protection. The TriStar Series has introduced new distances to the sport of triathlon (A/N: 111km and 222km). More Info: star-events.cc.
