The second edition of TriStar Nevis brings along another week full of sport events and fun on the island known as the "Queen of the Caribbean". The 2012 events will be even more interesting for athletes who want to start the season with a whole week of trainings surrounded by their families in a real paradise on earth. Nevis will host several different competitionsin one of the earliest destinations of the year worldwide. This sports festival starts on 25 March with a StarMile2.5 Nevis~St.Kitts, a 2.5 miles long swim race with 10 years’ tradition in open waters connecting these two islands. Besides TriStar111 Nevis –31March– there will be two other triathlons (TriStar11.1 and TriStar33.3), perfect to get the taste of this sport for the first time or simply to train before the big race. Athletes can also participate in a 5km charity run, contributing to the Pink Lily Cancer Care Nevis. The top ranked triathletes in TriStar111 Nevis 2012 will share a total of $ 10,000 PRO cash purse, attracting top athletes from US and Europe to come to Nevis.

Nevis is set to host a mega triathlon event in 2010. This was revealed at a press conference held last week by the President of the St.Kitts and Nevis Triathlon Federation, Winston Crooke. The press conference was held upstairs the Arthur Evelyn Building which houses the Nevis Tourism Authority.
Present at the Press conference were representatives of all of the stakeholders on Nevis who will all seek to ensure that the event is a major success. Some of the agencies represented were: The Police, Customs Dept; The Ministry of Tourism, the Nevis Cultural Foundation; Public Works Dept; Ministry of Sports; Immigration and Dept of Planning, among others.
Mr. Crooke outlined the basic information on the proposed event and the persons present made suggestions as to the logistics of making the event a major success.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Mr. Alsted Pemberton indicated that the Nevis Island Administration is very much on board and will support the St.Kitts and Nevis Triathlon Federation in its quest of making the event a success, having recognized the tremendous impact it will have on the Tourism product on the island.
According to Crooke, the mega Tri star 111 event will be held on Saturday April 2nd but will involve a full week of activities involving the athletes and their entourage.
The busy week of activities will commence on Sunday 27th March 2011 with the annual cross channel swim from Nevis to St.Kitts which continues to attract more and more swimmers every year. It will also involve tours, hikes, cultural events and smaller biking events that will seek to involve participation from some of Nevis’ young athletes especially some of the young Cyclists who are currently involved in the ‘bikes not bombs program. The visitors will also be exposed to a wide array of Nevis cuisine and general culture.
The main event will involve the following:
· TriStar111 Distance – 1000m Swim - 100km Bike - 10km Run (individual or relay)
· TriStar33.3 Distance - 300m Swim - 30km Bike - 3km Run (individual only)
· TriStar11.1 Distance – 0.1km Swim - 10km Bike - 1km Run (individual only)
Yesterday, Mr. Crooke, Mr. Pemberton and Mr. Gregg Phillip (the General Secretary of the SKNTA) were guests on the ‘Social Development Outlook’ program aired on Choice Radio and they sought to inform the general public on the event.
The point was made lucidly clear that the event could never be a success unless the general population of Nevis unite forces to make it happen.
Greg Phillip stated emphatically: ‘Yes we can’ as he referred to the fact that much smaller countries would have successfully hosted events involving huge amounts of athletes.
It was noted that some 500 athletes are expected in for the event, including some of the world famous triathletes. Additionally the meet is expected to attract some world renowned stars, including local hero, Kim Collins.
World renowned media personnel are also expected in to cover the event.
Mr. Pemberton also noted that meetings will be held regularly with the key stake holders to ensure that everything is put in place well in advance of the event and he appealed to the business entities to make significant contributions towards making what will be a costly event possible, recognizing the huge potential for profit making for the Nevis economy, in the long run.

StarMile2.5 fera l'ouverture d'une semaine de sports et de loisirs à Nevis
Les athlètes de TriStar111 Nevis sont invités à y passer leurs vacances
Une semaine de sports et de plaisir sera lancée par StarMile 2.5 Nevis~St.Kitts le 27 mars avec 2.5 miles de nage en eau libre à travers le canal entre les îles caribéennes de St.Kitts et Nevis. Les participants venant participer à TriStar111 Nevis le 2 avril se verront offrir un programme riche et varié au cours de cette semaine précédant un triathlon unique en son genre.
Désormais à sa 9ème édition, la traversée du canal de Nevis à St.Kitts est relabellisé StarMile 2.5 et inaugurera une semaine de sport, de fun et de loisirs sur l'île de Nevis dans les Caraïbes. La traversée du canal à la nage StarMile 2.5 Nevis~St.Kitts aura lieu le dimanche 27 mars 2011 et les participants nageront les 2.5 miles (4km) dans la mer des Caraïbes d'une île à l'autre. Le départ de la course se situe à Oualie Beach à Nevis et l'arrivée à St.Kitts à la Cockleshell Bay. Le nouveau record de l'évènement a été établi en 2010 par Rhian Purdy avec un temps de 1:05:21.
“Une des attractions de cet évènement est qu'il n'est pas seulement une course mais aussi un défi. Tous ceux qui ne sont pas très rapides ou de très bons nageurs sont autorisés à utiliser des palmes et des masques de plongée pour les emmener à travers les beaux passages étroits'”, a déclaré Winston Crooke, Président de la Fédération de Triathlon de St Kitts & Nevis.
TriStar111 Nevis aura lieu le samedi 2 avril 2011 mais les athlètes seront enclins à rester toute la semaine dans les îles pour leur préparation à la course et pour y passer des vacances cartes postales sur la "Reine des Caraïbes", comme l'île est appelée ici. Les organisateurs préparent une semaine pleine de divertissement pour ceux qui seront présents sur l'île, avec un thème différent chaque jour.
Le mardi sera un jour de fun et de loisirs avec un programme d'équitation sur la plage, de kayak et de pêche en haute mer. Le mercredi sera le jour de charité avec une course à pied fun de 5km avec comme objectif la sensibilisation pour la lutte contre le cancer. En coopération avec Livestrong™, des fonds seront recueillis pour la fondation contre le cancer du sein Pink Lily avec la volonté de fournir des soins de qualité contre le cancer à Nevis. Jeudi sera la journée des séminaires avec les ambassadeurs TriStar et les triathlètes professionnels qui exposeront les stratégies de course ainsi que des techniques d'entraînement efficaces aux participants. La journée de vendredi sera orienté sur la protection de l'environnement avec les actions 4vita et les campagnes d'information sur des sujets qui deviennent de plus en plus pertinents chaque jour.
Chaque soir, deux restaurants locaux offriront leurs spécialités aux participants TriStar et StarMile afin de faire découvrir aux athlètes et à leur famille la diversité de la cuisine locale.
Le samedi apportera l'évènement principal avec TriStar111 Nevis. 1km de natation, 100km de vélo et 10km de course à pied qui viendront s'enchaîner pour former le premier TriStar111 Nevis suivi par la Caribéenne Cérémonie de Récompenses StarNight.
L’île de Nevis, petit état de 36 miles carrés (Ndlr : 93km2) , est situé près de l'archipel des Petites Antilles, à environ 200 miles (Ndlr : 322km) au sud de Puerto Rico, et juste à l'ouest d'Antigua. Ce bijou s’étend sur environ 7 miles de long et 5 miles de large, avec une végétation naturelle incroyable. Verte et sereine, l’île de Nevis est vraiment l'un des derniers endroits vierges de la planète et porte fièrement le nom de «Reine des Caraïbes". Du haut du sommet de Nevis de 3.232 pieds (Ndlr : 985m) aux profondeurs des eaux claires baignant les côtes, la faune et la flore n’ont pas fini de vous étonner !
