8 Ironman victories between 1989 and 2001 and a second place at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in 1997 all go on Jürgen Zäck’s resume. TriStar spoke with the 44 year old triathlon coach, who retired in 2006, at the premiere of the TriStar111Germany in Worms
TriStar: Jürgen, what bring you to the TriStar111 Germany in Worms today?
Jürgen Zäck: „I am here with Jens Kaiser and Till Schramm, two athletes in the race.” (Places 5 and 6, remark of the editorial staff).
And how is your first impression?
Zäck: „Very well. The race gives a great impression, everything looks extremely professional.”
And what do you think about the distance and the new format?
Zäck: „The bicycle distance is really first-class. I would have desired such a format.”
To what extent?
Zäck: „A normal middle distance makes you tired for some days. At the TriStar111 you only have to run 10 km at the end – so you can start training again after two or three days. The regeneration time is much shorter.”
Where do you see the TriStar in the coming years?
Zäck: „The TriStar series has a lot of potential and makes the triathlon scene hum. It draws athletes from cycling, however, meets with a positive response under the professionals.”
