She is a research associate at the Institute for Sports Medicine at the Olympic Center and Performance diagnostic specialist in Hallein/ Rif. She had her first sports successes, as a gymnast. Without specific training, she completed her first triathlon in 1994, which was organized from the gymnastics club. In 1999 she completed her first long-distance competition. In 2002 she was age-group world champion in the amateurs at the ITU World Championships in Nice. Since four years she is competing as professional triathlete and on 3 June 2012 she will attend her first TriStar competition at Attersee-Salzkammergut. During our photo shooting she took some time for us to answer a few questions...

Monika, how did you learn about the TriStar competitions?

I've already heard last year the first positive reports of TriStar and also I have been told from other athletes about the new series. It made me curious and I'm looking forward to my first participation on June 3rd 2012 at Attersee.

What do you think of TriStar?
I think it's a good competition to existing large Triathlon brands. I think TriStar is bringing new flair in the world of triathlon. A fresh wind is certainly good for our sport. The distances are very interesting, especially for late bloomers and also because of the very attractive cycling distance.

What are your goals for the TriStar Salzkammergut?
I want to offer to my fans “at home” my best performance and I will try to make my way to the top finishers.

What are your future goals for the year 2012?
I'm about to take part in 10 competitions. My aims are quite high, but first and foremost I really want to have fun. The TriStar Salzkammergut certainly has great potential. I wish I could convert my mileage from training in high race performance. This is surely possible.
