Mart Suurkivi won Melliste Triathlon

Mart Suurkivi from Tallinn Technical University sports club won Melliste Triathlon which took place on June 19. Karl-Rauno Miljand from 21CC Triathlon Club was second and Priit Ailt from TriSmile/Hawaii Express team was third.

Altogether 113 people finished the main race. Amongst others the finishers list included also Estonian minister of finance Jürgen Ligi, actress and singer Gerli Padar and actor Veikko Täär. Ain-Alar Juhanson, the organizer of the Melliste event as well as the organizer of Tristar Estonia commented: "This year we saw the largest number of triathletes ever at Melliste Triathlon - altogether 225 people participated different races during the day. The weather definitely supported the record breaking participation - it was raining in most other parts of Estonia but at Melliste the sun was shining and the temperature was just perfect." Juhanson added that many interesting triathlon events are still to be held this summer. The next race will be Valga Triathlon on July 10th that features a 113km race. Gerli Padar who completed her first ever thiathlon at Melliste commented her race after the finish: "The experience was great. For me the greatest challenge was to win the challenge against myself. Even my mother doubted that I can do this. But right after finishing the race I felt that I could do even more which is a good motivator for training towards 111km race I'm planning later this summer." Melliste Triathlon was organized by TriSmile Club. The race distance included 0,5km of swimming, 20km of cycling and 5km of running. Melliste Triathlon and other shorter races are perfect preparation events for all triathletes aiming to race at Tristar Estonia on August 7th which has a special classification together with 5th SEB Tartu Rulluisumaraton (rollerblade marathon that takes place on August 14th) also this year.
