Chris McCormack and Michaela Giger have made history by winning the world-premiere TriStar111. For the 111 km – 1km Swimming, 100km Cycling, 10km Running – enthusiastically received TriStar 111 Germany in Worms, “Macca” earned a time of 3:14:24, and the 34-year old Swiss Giger a time of 3:42:56. “The Bike Course was something special,” continued the 37-year old Australian. Giger was also especially interested: “This kind of course is tailored for me, as a strong cyclist.”

2:22 minutes behind McCormack were Christian Brader from Memmingen and local hero Jürgen Stilgenbauer (3:04) in second and third place. „The format is terrific and the course layout in and around my hometown was simply wonderful“, said the 27-year old Worms native, who after the race spontaneously agreed to participate in all the remaining races in the TriStar Series this year. For the Women, Isabelle Ferrer (France/3:49:43) placed second, ahead of Nicole Leder (Darmstadt/3:54:08).

With a “Rolling Start” the approximately 500 racers, who had presented themselves in the early morning hours at the Transition Area in the Wormser Festptatz, began the kilometer-long swimming course in the Flosshafen. Here Macca laid the foundation for his win, finishing in 12:25 minutes, nearly one and a half minutes ahead of the rest of the field and only seconds behind Priit Ailt (Estonia). Macca did not let lead out of his hands through the rest of the race.

Giger dominated the Womens competition on the cycling course through the wine country from Rheinhessen. The Zürich native picked up a nearly ten-minute lead during this portion of the race.

The organizers were also extremely pleased with their first fixture in the Nibelungenstadt. “Everyone has cooperated wonderfully,” said Lothar Leder. And all of the athletes were of one mind: The new format has a future. “You can build up to the distance very well in training, with a shorter regeneration time after the 10km than a typical half-distance race,” said Michaela Giger, who like many of the other professionals and amateurs in this year’s race, will be returning on 29. May 2011, when the starting gun fires for the second TriStar111 Germany in Worms.

The next events in the international series, organized by Star Production SARL, are Tristar 111 Estonia on 7 August, Tristar 111 Monaco on 5 September, and TriStar222 Sardinia on 3 October.
