The Formula One of Triathlons in Monte Carlo gets in pole position with an impressive starting list.
The Principality of Monaco will host the third TriStar111 race. The Formula 1 of Triathlons on 5 September 2010 has attracted more athletes than any other TriStar race so far and proves the interest in the unique race format. More than 620 individuals will entail 1km of swimming in the Mediterranean, 100km of cycling through the picturesque hinterland and 10km of running along the Formula 1 circuit. 17 professional athletes will be there to step on the gas while more than 20 relays will enjoy the triple-effort conjointly.
TriStar111 Monaco takes place on 5 September 2010 in the Principality of Monaco. The Formula 1 of Triathlons is the third race over the unique TriStar distances: 1km of swimming, 100km of cycling and 10km of running, adding up to the eponymous total distance of 111km.
“It is a tough workout and a very tough day. I am still trying to work out the best way of attacking this format. The short swim and the long bike, keeps the pace fast and aggressive from the onset and puts people in a position to attack very early on the ride. The short run means you cannot allow gaps to open on the bike as you don’t have the real-estate to run those times back. It is the pace of a short course event, with an extra hour of racing. It is seriously hard, and I love it,” says Ironman and ITU World Champion Chris McCormack, who will compete over the unique distance for the third time after Germany in June and Estonia in August.
The list of professional athletes is growing just like the list of individual starters. Frenchmen Francky Batelier, Laurent Dodet, Nicolas Fernandez and Olivier Marceau will attempt to hold the drapeau tricolore high at the Finish line. Local hero Hervé Banti from Monaco will be there to run in the colours of the Principality. Six more professional athletes, including Chris McCormack, will be racing the Formula1 of Triathlons and try to stay in the pole position until the Finish line stretch at the foot of the Hotel de Paris.
On the female side, winner of the 2009 race held in Monaco, Christel Robin (FRA), will be back to defend her title. Coralie Lemaire (FRA), Dina Braguti (ITA), Nicole Hofer (SUI) and Sara Tavecchio (ITA) will stick to Robin’s heels and try to cross the Finish line of TriStar111 Monaco first.
Even more Formula 1 spirit in Monaco!
For the inaugural race, Laurent Lerousseau, race director of TriStar111 Monaco, offers the competitors the icing on the cake: a small adaptation in the run loop will allow the participants to cross the famous and luxurious Place du Casino de Monte-Carlo in exclusivity!
“A big thank you to the SBM - Société de Bains de Mer - allowing for the first time to cross the majestic Place du Casino de Monte-Carlo and therefore grab even more of the F1 spirit! Tristar111 participants will also warm up the asphalt circuit, and one thing remains: the slowest bend in Formula 1 is the fastest bend in TriStar111 Monaco!” announces Laurent Lerousseau talking about the hairpin bends that will be run downhill during the race on 5 September.
